Biometric Login (Face ID / Fingerprint)

Overview

Instead of typing your password every time, you can unlock the system with your fingerprint or face — Face ID and Touch ID on Apple devices, fingerprint or face unlock on Android and Windows Hello on a PC.

Your password keeps working exactly as before. Biometric login is a faster way in, not a replacement, so you can never lock yourself out by using it.

Your fingerprint or face never leaves your device and is never sent to us. The device simply confirms it is you, and only that confirmation is passed on.

Turning It On

You enable it once per device, from the device you want to use:

  1. Open your profile (your name in the top-right menu).
  2. Find the Trusted devices section.
  3. Tap Add this device.
  4. Confirm with your fingerprint, face or device PIN when your device asks.

That device is now trusted and appears in the list.

{primary.fa-info-circle} You must repeat this on every device you want to use it on — your phone and your office computer are two separate trusted devices.

Signing In

Once a device is trusted, the login page on that device leads with Unlock with biometrics. Tap it, confirm with your fingerprint or face, and you are in.

If you would rather type your password that time, choose Use password instead. The normal login form appears, and Back to biometrics returns you.

{warning.fa-info-circle} On a device where you have not yet added biometrics, the login page looks completely normal and shows only the password form. This is deliberate: the button appears only once there is something on that device to unlock with.

Managing Trusted Devices

The Trusted devices list in your profile shows every device you have added, with the date it was last used. Remove any device you no longer own or recognise — removing it only affects biometric unlock on that device; your password is unchanged.

For your safety, you may be asked to confirm your password before adding or removing a device.

Good to Know

  • Only you can add your own devices. An administrator cannot enable biometric login for someone else, and cannot use it to access their account.
  • Deactivated accounts cannot get in. If an account is switched off, biometric unlock stops working immediately, exactly like the password.
  • A trusted device is tied to the web address you use. If your agency uses more than one branded address, add the device separately on each.
  • Lost your device? Remove it from the list from any other device. If you cannot, change your password — that protects the account either way.
